ANGRY SCENES AT GALWAY COURTHOUSE AS MAN REMANDED IN CUSTODY OVER MANUELA KILLING

There were angry scenes at Galway courthouse where a 27 year old man has been charged with the killing of 17 year old Swiss student Manuela Riedo.Gerard Barry of 187 Rosan Glas, Rahoon, originally from Mervue, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District court at 10 o'clock this morning.He's been remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District court on Friday 26 October next.A heavy Garda presence surrounded the courthouse as he was led in at ten to ten this morning. There were scuffles as Barry lashed out at a photographer and shouted obscenities at the waiting media.Gardai had to calm the accused down before any members of the public or media were allowed into court number 1.
