AIR AMBULANCE FOR WEST TO RECOMMENCE OPERATIONS FROM ATHLONE

Date Published: 19-Jul-2012
The Air Corps Emergency Aeromedical Support service for the west is due to recommence operations from its Athlone base tomorrow.
The service was disrupted after as a 'heavy landing' incident near Borrisoleigh in County Tipperary on June 19th - a paramedic and two crew members escaped unhurt.
It re-started services from Baldonnell earlier this month, and there were fears it would not be re-located.
The air ambulance service at Custume barracks in Athlone will cost 1 million euro a year to run, and will ensure seriously ill patients in areas such as Galway get the treatment they need.
