80 THOUSAND EURO TO REPLACE TUAM TRAFFIC LIGHTS

IT will cost up to 80,000 Euro to replace traffic lights in Tuam which have been out of action since before Christmas.
Town Councillors were shocked when told of the cost at their meeting this week.
Town Engineer Enda Gallagher told the meeting that very basic repairs to get the traffic lights at Ballygaddy Road working again would cost 20,000 Euro.
But to replace them with a new state of the art set would be at least 80,000 Euro.
Cllr Pat O Hora suggested that they put a roundabout there instead of replacing the traffic lights.
Cllrs Tom Reilly and Larry Bane said they had been told in the past that all three sets of traffic lights along this stretch of the N17 would be synchronised but now they were shocked to hear of the cost of repairing one set of lights.
