8 PERCENT OF GALWAY HOMEOWNERS REGISTER TO PAY SEPTIC TANK FEE

Just 8 percent of home owners in the city and county have registered their septic tanks despite a looming deadline.

It's among the lowest compliance levels in the country, with Wexford topping the list at 16 percent and Dublin at the bottom with just 1 percent of registrations.

A reduced 5 euro fee is in place until the end of the month, before the full charge of 50 euro kicks in.

All tanks have to be registered by the start of next February.

There are over 497 thousand tanks around the country, and so far, less than 46 thousand have been registered.
