57 unfinished Galway developments will be exempt from the household charge.

The 100 euro annual charge introduced by the Local Government Act 2011 is payable by owners of residential property.

Under legislation, a waiver is allowed under certain circumstances.

These include if a receiver has not been appointed and the developer is still in place but effectively inactive or if the development has been effectively abandoned and is posing serious problems for residents.

In Galway city, Foinn Uisce on the Doughiska Road is the only development to be excluded from the new charge.

While 56 developments across the county are also recorded as not liable to pay the 100 euro fee.

The names and addresses of the estates are on www.household.ie
