46 thousand people are waiting for treatment at Galway's public hospitals according to figures from the Health Service Executive.
Over 7 thousand people are currently awaiting in-patient treatment at Galway city’s public hospitals.
The figures were provided at the HSE West Regional Forum meeting following a query from Councillor Catherine Connolly.
Other figures, which HSE officials stress are unvalidated, show over 39 thousand patients awaiting out-patient treatment at Galway University Hospitals.
Tony Canavan of the HSE Primary, Community and Continuing Care Committee said all 7 thousand will be dealt with by the end of this year.
