29 PEOPLE DIE BY SUICIDE IN GALWAY LAST YEAR

29 people across Galway city and county died by suicide last year.

According to the CSO Vital Statistics report for 2011, the number of people who died was above the 2010 figure of 28.

Nationally the report revealed that 525 people took their own lives in 2011 showing a 7 per cent increase on the previous year.

Ambassador for breveament and prevention agency Console, and Galway County Cllr Peter Roche says that while there was an increse in the number of people seeking help, there is still alot of work to be done to prevent suicide in Ireland.
