2 Galway raised bogs for EU Restoration project

Two Galway raised bogs are among those to be included in the first phase of a rewetting process.
It's part of ongoing work to protect and restore 53 sites nationwide deemed special areas of conservation under the EU Habitats Directive.
They are Lisnageeragh and Carra na gCappaill in Galway.
The work seeks to re-establish water levels in high bog areas followed by an examination of drains in the peripheral areas.
Meanwhile, the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association is to meet in Athlone on Monday night to discuss the plan.
The group argues that the plan is 'premature' and 'dangerous' and adds that no agreement has been reached with the majority of affected turfcutters on relocation or otherwise.
