150 TAKE PART IN PRO-CHOICE RALLY IN CITY CALLING FOR LEGISLATION ON X CASE

Date Published: 02-Dec-2012
Up to 150 people took to the city streets yesterday in a rally calling for emergency legislation to give statutory backing to the Supreme Court judgement in the X case.
The demonstration was led by Pro-Choice Galway and began with a series of speeches in the Spanish Arch before making its way through Shop Street and on to Eyre Square.
The Taoiseach has said that the debate on abortion cannot be rushed and the government is to decide later this month on which option put forward by the expert group on abortion to implement.
The Pro-Choice march was held in the city a month after the death of Savita Halappannavar who died at UHG of septicemia following a miscarriage.
Her family claim she was refused a termination and are now taking a case to the Court of Human rights seeking a sworn public inquiry.
