100th Street mix the old and the new

There are not many opportunities to go clubbing to a soundtrack of quality house and techno in Galway these days, but all is not lost.

This Saturday, the 110th Street crew (DJs Cyril Briscoe and Cian Ó Cíobháin) will be soundtracking the slow, languorous fade of late summer into early autumn at their new dancing spot in the west, Monroe's Tavern, Dominick Street (or Moe’s, as some Simpsons’ fans like to call it).

110th Street has always embraced an open music policy but in short they’ll be spinning old and new disco, house, techno and bass heavy classics. “Not to mention heartbreakers, plenty of them,” says Cian Ó Cíobháin.

Cyril and Cian have been known to dig out vintage Abba and ’70s disco anthems but are also equally happy to play bleepy European techno to people who don't bother going to bed at weekends. After a brief time-out, which was mostly spent stocking their wine cellars, the lads re-surfaced in 2009 and have been belting out tunes ever since.

Cian and Cyril have set up camp in a new corner of the internet at galwaysisi.tumblr.com

For the next few weeks, they’ll be uploading some of their old mixes, previously available only on CD. The first two mixes are online now, one from 110th Street’s Town Hall days and another from their GPO residency in 2002.

Concessions available from the Blue Note and also online from the 110th Street group on Facebook.
