Unsettled and cooler conditions are expected for the next five days but experts have pinpointed the return of good weather

Ireland has seen quite a mixed bag of weather over the last couple of weeks from blistering 30 degree heat to lashing rain and as we move into the first week of June it seems the unsettled conditions are here to stay, for another while at least.

According to Carlow Weatherman Alan O’Reilly, “ nasty showers that could be thundery” are expected for Wednesday but there’s good news for next week.

In a post on X, he said,

“If you want some hope for settled warm weather to return the weather models show it happening around the 11th of the month. Long way off yet but fingers crossed.”

Meanwhile, Met Éireann have given their five day forecast saying cooler temperatures are to be expected along with blustery showers and heavy rain moving in at the weekend.

Today

Rain will continue to clear northeastwards this morning, followed by frequent showers for the rest of the day. Some of the showers will be heavy and thunderstorms are likely, with a chance of hail too.

Some sunny spells will break through in between the showers though. Breezy with highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty southwest winds.

Cloudy tonight with further showers or longer spells of rain. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a moderate to fresh southwest to west wind.

Thursday

Cool and blustery with widespread showers, merging into longer spells of rain at times. The showers will become less frequent later in the day and more in the way of sunny spells will develop. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees with fresh and gusty westerly winds.

Clear spells and scattered showers on Thursday night, mainly over the western half of the country. A cool night with lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds easing light to moderate southwesterly overnight.

Friday

A mix of well scattered showers and sunny spells at first on Friday. Cloud will build from the southwest through the afternoon with rain following and spreading into much of the south and west through the evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds.

Becoming wet in all areas overnight as the rain spreads northeastwards. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a freshening south easterly wind.

Saturday

After a wet or damp start, the rain will gradually clear northeastwards through the afternoon and evening. Drier and brighter weather will follow from the southwest through the day. Highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees. Breezy with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Sunday

Sunday will be a cooler day with blustery showers or longer spells of rain spreading from the west. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
