Mulryan targets more Cheltenham Festival glory with improving four-year-old

A prominent Galway racehorse owner is targeting a race at the upcoming Cheltenham National Hunt Festival in which he has savoured Cotswolds glory before.

City auctioneer Liam Mulryan has a live candidate in Zoffanien for the Boodles Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle on the opening day of the festival.

Having been placed in good company in four of his previous five outings, the Denis Hogan trained French-bred was finally rewarded for his consistency at Nass on Sunday.

Sent off the 6/4 favourite in his first handicap, Zoffanien was always in the front rank and had little difficulty in easing past the pace-setting Rock Chic on the climb to the line.

Nine lengths clear at the winning post, Mulryan’s charge is bound to take a significant hike in the handicap ratings having ran off a mark of 119 – an adjustment which should see the horse make his Cheltenham target.
