Date Published: 22-Jan-2008
It's hoped an initiative to help young people deal with mental health issues which is the first of it's kind in Ireland will be open in Galway by May.The 'Jigsaw project' will consist of a drop-in centre in Mary Street in the city, which will be serviced by medical personnel to support young people.Outreach councillors will travel around the county to service young people in rural areas. The project is collaboration between the HSE West, Headstrong- the national centre for youth mental health and local businesses, community leaders and young people.Project facilitator John Fitzmaurice says it's essential that intervention for mental health problems be at an early stage.
