Galway In Days Gone By

Galway roads
The Ferro concrete system of roadmaking has been adopted with a good deal of success in a number of Irish towns. In limerick city, where the roads are much better than those in Galway – and that is not saying much for them – the system has been found to supply a long-felt want.
It is understood that the Galway Urban Council has under consideration the question of making the roads in the urban area on the Ferro concrete plan.
The road so made is stated to be practically everlasting. With the increasing use of the motor vehicle, local authorities will be obliged sooner or later to face the problem of providing safer highways. The patching plan, which has obtained in Galway city up to the present, is an unnecessary waste of money. The public, who contribute huge sums in the road tax, have a right to expect a road which is negotiable without risk to life or limb.
