Robberies on the roads
The occupants of three motor cars on their way to a dance at Salthill were held-up by masked and armed men at Loughgeorge, Galway, on Sunday night, and relieved of money and jewellery.
The hold-up party consisted of five men, four of whom carried revolvers. The drivers of the cars were ordered to extinguish the lights, and this having been done, one of the hold-up party took from the pockets of the travellers, who included four ladies, £18 and three watches.
In the early hours of Monday morning, four farmers travelling to Galway fair were held-up, and their money and watches taken from them. On the Civic Guards being appraised of the occurrence, they proceeded to the scene, accompanied by military.
Several persons were arrested in the locality but were released on giving satisfactory account of their movements at the time of the hold-up.
Four arrests were effected on Thursday morning in connection with the hold-up on Sunday night. Supt.
