June meeting to discuss possible community council in Tuam

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Some members of Tuam Town Council have suggested their willingness to participate in a voluntary community council, now that the Town Council is being disbanded. The idea was raised at the final meeting of the Town Council this week. Mayor Imelda Kelly's suggestion of a meeting on Monday June 9th to ascertain who might be interested in reactiviating the town's former community council was agreed. But when Councillor Tom Reilly, who said he'd work voluntarily on the community council asked if this meeting could be held in the town hall, he was told it would have to be elsewhere. Mayor Kelly said this initial meeting would be best held at a neutral venue, and if a community council was formed, then they could apply afterwards to see if meetings could be held in a room at the town hall.
