IDA HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE AS CONSULTATION CONTINUES FOR GRID WEST PROJECT

IDA Ireland says energy infrastructure is a critical component in attracting business to the west of Ireland.
Its comments come as Eirgrid prepares to hold two open days in Galway on the Grid west project.
The first takes place at the Raheen woods this Thursday, and the second in Flannery's hotel in the city on Friday.
The Grid West project is Eirgird's plan to develop and upgrade the electricity transmission network from now until 20-25.
The project will initially consist of a new high capacity power line linking Bellacorick, Mayo to a strong point on the transmission grid.
It's envisaged that, in time, the project will involve two high capacity power lines from Bellacorrick, Mayo to both Cashla in Galway and Flagford in Roscommon.
The investment is worth around 240 million, and the plan is now at consultation level.
Head of IDA Ireland's business intelligence division Brendan McDonagh, says the project has the potential to cement further investment into the west
