Galway City Council is considering the grounds of Merlin Park hospital as a possible cemetery, with the city running short on burial spaceHowever the decision by the City Council to approach the HSE about using land in the hospital for a cemetery has been slammed by a local councillor.Councillor Collette Connolly says the proposal is ridiculous and insensitive, and that hospital grounds are entirely unsuitable for the purposes of a cemetery. The Labour councillor is not happy about the lack of communication from city officials regarding their plans.
