Galway City Council could create a 'ghettoised’Knocknacarra if they press ahead with plans to purchase eight acres of land for a social and affordable housing project, a local councillor has warned. And locals have expressed fears that hundreds more social and affordable houses could be built in the area on lands already owned by the Council and on upcoming private estates.Councillor John Mulholland said that plans to build 100 social and affordable houses on the eight acres on the Ballymoneen Road looked set to become as divisive an issue as the construction of the Traveller hardstand in Lower Salthill in the early 1990s.
