GALWAY SENATOR BRANDS NEWSPAPER REPORT AS MISLEADING

Date Published: 23-Apr-2012
Galway Senator Ronan Mullan has branded an Irish Times report on his recent conversation with a group lobbying for the provision of abortion here, under certain circumstances, as "inaccurate and misleading".
James Burke and his wife Amanda were part of a group that spoke with Oireachtas members about how they had to travel to the UK to access abortion services, during pregnancies which were incompatible with life.
Mr. Burke says that after the wider discussion Senator Mullan accused him of having a "bigger agenda".
However in a statement the Independent Senator says that Mr. Burke told him that he 'disliked' him and his 'argumentative style', and then bristled and motioned him away when he attempted to shake his hand.
James Burke says he and his wife were shocked by the incident and insist they have no other agenda than helping other couples in the same situation as themselves
