Researchers at NUI Galway are taking part in a European initiative to create toolkits for screening radiation exposure in citizens.

The multi million euro three year project is aimed at creating tools to be used by emergency services in countries across Europe.

The current process to determine the amount of radiation exposure to a person, involves taking bodily fluids and can take up to three days to yield results.

Researchers at NUI Galway have been working for over 6 years on ways to reduce test result times to less than one day.
