Five new firefighters appointed in Galway City

The Galway Fire and Rescue HQ in Galway City has been brought back up to its full working complement with the recent addition of five new full-time firefighters.
Providing round-the-clock emergency call-out services, the headquarters for the city and county – located at Fr Griffin Road – is now back up to its full working complement of 36.
The five new firefighters will replace those who have left the service over recent months – mainly due to retirements.
Broken into four ‘watches’, the Galway HQ provides 24/7 cover for a range of emergency services including fires, ambulance assistance, road accidents, river rescues and other specialist rescue services.
Crews from the Galway station cover an area ranging from Spiddal and Maam Cross to the west of the Corrib to Loughgeorge, Carnmore and Luimnagh near Corrandulla.
As well as that, the city-based crews also provide a back-up service for the fire brigade centres in other towns dotted around the county.
A spokesperson for Galway Fire and Rescue said they were delighted to have the full working complement restored with the recruitment of the five new firefighters.
