Leader of the Fianna Fáil party, Micheál Martin, says it would be "excellent" to see Éamon Ó Cuív become President of Ireland.

Deputy Martin made the comments during a visit to Galway to meet with grassroot members in a bid to reinvigorate the party.

Last week, Fianna Fáil Senator, Mary White praised the credentials of the Galway West T.D.

Deputy Ó Cuív says he is 'charmed' by the vote of confidence.

Fianna Fáil is still considering whether or not it will run a candidate in the Presidential Race.
