A councillor has made urgent representations to the city council, demanding access for emergency vehicles at Cappagh Park, in Knocknacarra.

Councillor Donal Lyons says the current lack of access for ambulances to the playing fields poses a very serious health and safety risk.

He's citing the case of an injury last week, which required the hospitalisation of a player.

He says ambulance staff could not get onto the pitch, as construction hoarding was blocking access, as were cars parked in the area.

The injured player had to be carried off the pitch by trolley, as the ambulance could not get near him, and this whole process took 50 minutes.

Councillor Lyons says something must be done, before something more serious happens.
