The hugely impressive Halves play a free show in Róisín Dubh on Thursday, November 24.
Halves, founded by of Brian Cash, Elis Czerniak and Tim Czerniak, have developed their live show into a mix of synched visuals, strings, brass, and electronics, anchored by soaring guitars and live drums. Since their eponymous EP was released in May '07, Halves have played all of Ireland's major music festivals; Oxegen, the Electric Picnic, and the Hard Working Class Heroes festival, sharing bills with Sigur Ros, Rage against the Machine, My Bloody Valentine and Bjork.
Their 2008 appearance at Eurosonic Festival in Holland was their first outside Ireland and they have since travelled twice to Toronto to play at Canadian Music Week and to Texas for SXSW.
They released their first full length album, It Goes, It Goes (Forever and Ever) in 2010, when it was shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year. They blend a range of instruments – bells and glockenspiel one moment, the piano and accordion the next – over guitar crescendos, haunting strings and both acoustic and electronic drums to craft intense, deeply resonant soundscapes.
This is their first Galway show in a while and is a chance to see one of the country’s most intriguing acts. Doors at 10pm.
