CONNEMARA PROTEST AGAINST SCHOOL CUTS

Date Published: 19-Jan-2012
Parents and pupils at a Connemara School will hold a demonstration tomorrow [20/1] against planned cutbacks in education.
The protest at Scoil Mhuire, An Tuairín, Beal An Daingean aims to reverse the Department of Education's proposal to increase pupil teacher ratios.
78 pupils are enrolled at the school which has four teachers.
However there are fears that this will be reduced to three teachers as part of government plans by next September.
Meanwhile a public meeting will take place at Gullane's Hotel in Ballinasloe at 8.30 tomorrow evening against the planned cuts to rural schools.
