A City Councillor is claiming changes to work practices in Galway fire services could put lives in danger.

According to Councillor Padraig Conneely new proposals involve extending the city limit to a radius of 5 miles before the part time crew is called in.

The current radius is two and a half miles, when the retained part-time crew members are called to be on standby at the Claddagh based fire station.

It's understood the new changes could come into effect by the end of the year.

Councillor Padraig Conneely says the city could be left very exposed if the plan goes ahead.
