Church to meet about memorial for mass childrens grave in Tuam

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Catholic Church is due to discuss the prospect of erecting a memorial at a mass children's grave discovered in Tuam. Minister of State, Galway East T.D Ciaran Cannon has already called for an inquiry in the Dáil to determine the facts surrounding the unmarked burial site. Up to 800 babies were buried at the plot which was next to a former home for unmarried mothers, which was run by the Bon Secours Sisters. According to today's Irish Independent, a meeting is due to take place shortly between Archbishop of Tuam, Dr. Michael Neary and the head of the Bons Secours Sisters in Ireland. Local historian Catherine Corless discovered the death records for 796 children while researching the home.
