Galway’s pioneering PorterShed is the venue for Ireland’s first ever internet of things ‘hackathon’.

The weekend event takes place in the new hub of Galway’s innovation district, from October 7 to 9.

Sixty participants will learn how to build solutions on IBM Watson, the world's leading cognitive IoT platform, utilising Cisco’s secure IoT technology, and gain access to the VT Network which connects Ireland's internet of things.

Business and technical experts will be on hand to help participants develop their ideas through user-centric design, software and hardware prototyping, and pitching to a panel of industry thought leaders.

Prizes will be awarded to the best overall IoT project, best edge IoT project, and best citizen scientist project.

The weekend is not all about hard work. There will be lots of prizes, food, giveaways, and the occasional beer to help the creative processs!

And if hackers want to burn the midnight oil, they can bring a sleeping bag and crash at the PorterShed.

The competition is aimed at people who are interested in developing a cognitive IoT solution, it is open to domain experts, as well as developers and technologists.
