Galway social enterprise’s success story as sector receives funding boost

A Galway recycling company, which over the last three years has saved 25,000 matrasses from the dump – and offered employment to members of the Traveller community in the process – is to set up a second depot in the west.
Bounce Back Recycling was one of the winners in the latest round of funding for social enterprises, announced last week.
The company provides a mattress recycling service in the Connacht/Ulster waste region – and over the last three years they have diverted 25,000 mattresses away from landfill.
This has contributed to a greener – and more inclusive economy by employing members of the Traveller community.
Bounce Back Recycling received its new funding following the final pitches - and they will use this to open their second depot in Sligo.
“The support from Social Innovation Fund Ireland’s Social Enterprise Development Fund has allowed us to take our work to the next level,” said Bounce Back Recycling’s joint coordinator Martin Ward.
“It has helped us overcome some big challenges as we plan to extend our services in the coming years,” he added.
He was speaking as details of this year’s €1.6 million fund – which effectively doubles the amount allocated for social enterprises since the scheme was first launched in 2018.
